Meet Our Teachers
Sam Purswell
Sam has spent the last five years serving oldham county as a full-time guitar instructor! He began his musical foundation at the very young age of four with piano and violin. He eventually transitioned into classical guitar, which he studied for eight years. Now, Sam mostly enjoys genres such as Jazz, R&B, Blues, Folk and Rock, as these are reflected in his teaching. He studied music production and performance at the University of Indiana for two years, and can be caught playing with a handful of music groups in Louisville as well as playing solo.
Doug Thompson
Doug Thompson is an accomplished music teacher with a rich and diverse musical background. He is an awarded pianist with the National Guild Society and has extensive experience as a piano teacher and organist. Doug has competed in the Kentucky State Fiddlers Championship, showcasing his exceptional skills as a fiddler. Additionally, he is proficient in playing the guitar, banjo, and is a talented singer. Doug's multifaceted expertise and passion for music make him an inspiring and versatile educator.
Jayson Zorn
Jayson is a guitarist from the Chicagoland area. He is a recent graduate from Olivet Nazarene University where he studied jazz and classical guitar. He is currently pursuing a Master's degree from the University of Louisville where he is studying guitar with Craig Wagner. Jayson has performed in a variety of musical genres and professional opportunities. He is also passionate about teaching music, which he has been doing with students of varying ages and skill levels, and plans to continue to do so after graduation.
Terry Braehler
Terry teaches 5-string banjo, 3-finger style. He has been playing banjo since 1971. Terry’s goal is to teach you to play banjo, not just repeat songs. Terry also plays bass, guitar and the mandolin. Terry retired from GE Appliance Park after 37 years of service and enjoys teaching because he wants to pass on his knowledge of the instrument. His other hobbies include cooking, woodworking, reading (mostly history), and collecting old advertising art. Come over to the store, meet Terry, and let him show you how to pick.
Lance Pfeiffer
Lance began violin lessons at age 12, continuing for six years with a Julliard trained instructor. He has played with the Louisville Youth Orchestra, graduating from Concert, to Repertory and finally to the Symphony orchestra. He was a member of the All County (3 years) and All State ( 2 years) orchestras. Recently, he has served in the IU Southeast Summer String Clinic, in the St. Bernadette choir and has travelled to NYC for a performance at Carnegie Hall.
Lance is devoted to reviving the love of orchestral music in a new generation.
David Barrickman
David Barrickman began studying piano and organ with Dr. Louie Bailey at age 6 and has played professionally since 15. He has been involved in church music ministry since 17. After graduating from Ballard High School, he played piano at Kings Island and then attended Bellarmine College's jazz program, studying with Kay Lawrence and Steve Crews. From 2004 to 2017, David was the Director of Music and adult choir at St. Peter the Apostle and the children’s choir director at St. Andrew Academy. He also taught in the Mom’s Music Yamaha Rock School pilot program at Barrett Middle School. Over the years, David has played at various local businesses, including the former Louisville Galleria, Charley’s, Zephyr Cove/Kentucky Cove, and most recently at J. Harrods in Prospect, Kentucky.
